A 77-year old woman recently died whilst on the telephone to the emergency services, during a burglary in her home.
It was in December 2018 that Maureen Whale, of Barnet, north London, was broken into and her handbag was stolen.
On a recently released recording of her telephone conversation to police, Mrs Whale can be heard explaining that two men had entered her home and taken her handbag. As the call progressed, Maureen became more and more distressed, with her voice shaking and her breathing becoming laboured.
Attempts by the operator to calm her down failed, and there was no response on the line. A post-mortem examination revealed her cause of death to be coronary heart disease brought on by stress.
The suspects were seen on CCTV climbing over Ms Whale’s outside gate before entering the house. The Metropolitan Police are trying to trace three suspects in relation to this event and have offered a reward of £20,000 for any information leading to an arrest.
